We machine production parts for Machine Vision and Optical Inspection equipment, from single prototypes through to repeat batches. Typical work covers camera mounts, lens mounts, light brackets and calibration plate bases, usually in 6061-T6 or, where a stiffer part matters more, 7075-T6.
What makes Machine Vision different from general machining is that accuracy is set by how several parts line up, not by any single dimension. The camera mount, lens mount and light bracket are separate parts, but the optical axis only stays true if their faces are flat, their bores are concentric and their datums agree. A bracket in tolerance on its own can still tilt the camera if the face it bolts to is not flat, so we machine to the assembly datum, not to each part in isolation.
Parts we machine for Machine Vision
- Camera mounts and camera housing brackets
- Lens mounts and lens barrel adapters
- Ring light and bar light brackets
- Calibration plate bases and inspection stage plates
Materials we run for Machine Vision
- 6061-T6 aluminium for most mounts and stage plates
- 7075-T6 aluminium where stiffness matters more than cost
- 316L and 17-4PH stainless for wash-down and wear
- PEEK and POM for insulating or low-friction parts
Inspection and documentation
- Dimensional report and certificate of conformity as standard
Material certificates, CMM raw data, first article inspection reports and per-piece photos are available when your build needs them, and metal orders ship with a free material certificate. The tolerance grade selection guide helps set the tolerance you actually need.
Where Machine Vision projects usually go wrong
- Optical axis alignment is set by the assembly datum, so a part in tolerance on its own can still tilt the camera
- Bare aluminium reflects stray light into the lens, so black anodizing is functional here, not cosmetic
Tolerance and finish we hold
| Requirement | Typical capability |
|---|---|
| General tolerance | +/-0.05 mm general, +/-0.025 mm on critical features only, +/-0.005 mm on precision aluminium and steel |
| Flatness and roundness | 0.002 mm per 100 mm flatness by surface grinding; roundness 0.001 mm by cylindrical grinding |
| Surface finish | Ra 1.6 to 3.2 um as-machined; Ra 0.025 to 6.3 um overall |
| Surface finishing | Black anodizing (Type II 5 to 25 um, Type III 25 to 50 um), bead blasting, laser marking |
| Inspection | Dimensional report and certificate of conformity standard; CMM data and FAIR on request |
Frequently asked questions
Do you have experience with Machine Vision parts?
Yes. Typical parts we run are camera mounts, lens mounts and stage plates. We can share the process route and inspection approach first.
Which materials do you recommend for Machine Vision?
6061-T6 aluminium for most mounts and plates, 7075-T6 where stiffness matters more, and stainless where the parts are washed down. The binding constraint is usually weight, stiffness, corrosion or cost.
What tolerances do you hold on a lens mount?
+/-0.005 mm on precision aluminium and steel, with 0.002 mm per 100 mm flatness on datum faces and 0.001 mm roundness on bores by cylindrical grinding. Tighter tolerance is quoted against the individual feature.
What documentation do you provide?
A dimensional report and a certificate of conformity as standard. Material certificates, CMM raw data and first article inspection reports are available on request.
